Image to video with AI: bring a still photo to life
When to animate an existing image instead of generating video from text, how to pick an image that animates well, and how to direct the motion so the subject stays recognisable.

Why start from an image
Text-to-video invents everything: the subject, the light, the framing. Image-to-video keeps what you already have and only adds motion. That makes it the better choice when the picture must stay yours - a product, a room, a dish, a brand scene you already approved.
In the Zappy Studio, Video mode can start from a text description or from an image. Starting from an image is how you keep a product or a place looking like itself across the whole clip.
Pick an image that animates well
Motion needs room. Choose an image with a clear subject, some space around it and a background with depth - a street, a shelf, a sky - rather than a flat cut-out. Sharp edges and good light survive animation; noisy, dark or heavily compressed images get worse when they move.
Match the frame to where the clip will run. A vertical image for Reels, TikTok and Shorts; a landscape one for a website header or YouTube.
Direct the motion, not the picture
The image already answers "what". Your prompt should answer "how it moves": a slow push-in, a gentle orbit, steam rising, fabric moving, light sweeping across the label. One camera move and one subject motion is usually enough; asking for many at once produces jitter.
Avoid asking the model to change the subject ("make it red", "add a person"). If the still is wrong, fix the still first and animate again.
Check before you publish
Watch the clip at full speed and once frame by frame around the end. Look for warped text, extra fingers or a product that changes shape mid-clip. If the first second is strong, trim to it: short, clean loops outperform long clips that drift.
Every render shows its price in credits before you start, and a failed render returns its credits automatically.
